The mind is a very curious organ. Without we as humans would not be able to function in the world. The brain has a lot to do with our learning. In terms of how we learn and what hemisphere we use the most. The concept of the right and left brain think developed from research in the late 1960s by an American psychologist Roger W Sperry. The correct term for the halves would be hemispheres. Mr. Sperry had discovered that the human brain has two different ways of thinking. The right hemisphere being more visual and the left hemisphere being more verbal. The left hemisphere is known as the digital brain. The left side controls reading and writing, calculation and logical thinking. The right side is known as the analog brain this side†¦show more content†¦Scientist felt it took two hemispheres to be logical or to be creative. We all know learning takes place in the brain. Left brained learners are logical, sequential, linear, analytical,reality based, objective, verbal and symbo lic. The right brained learners seem to be more intuitive, random, global, fantasy based, subjective, non-verbal, visual and concrete. In conclusion, when you think of your brain you automatically think of how in-depth it must be. It holds your memories, its your phone book, your notepad. I mean honestly you couldnt do anything without it. When it comes to how people learn your hemispheres play a big part. I know people who could see a problem once and know how to solve it, however I would have to sit down and really study for weeks just to understand that same problem. While learning about the different ways your brain works and the different affects each hemisphere has on your learning I’m sure this could help people with their different learning styles. People who paint and create video games would use their right hemisphere more often, but a person with great public speaking skills would use their left hemisphere. If a person can train their brain to use both side they wo uld surely be ahead of the game. I wonder if acclaimed geniuses use both hemispheres. This week’s assignment focused on my experience exploring both the academic success center and the dissertation center via the NCU website. I began with the academic success center (ASC) and was pleased to find an easily accessible link on my NCU homepage just below the â€Å"center for teaching and learning† tab. One of the first features I noticed was a link on the right hand side for accessing a live chat. This site features the ability to ask quick questions as needed any time after 3 PM, pacific standard time. Although I did not actually try out the live chat since I was exploring earlier in the morning, it was reassuring to know that this is available. In today’s world of technology I find myself frustrated with automated systems and†¦show more content†¦I discovered that with the â€Å"free† feature, I could only copy and paste my documents. If I tried to upload a document, the site wanted me to pay for a premium access. With the cop y and paste feature however, I found that choosing one to two paragraphs at a time really helped me to focus on sentence structure and word choice more than when I re-read my entire document all at once. There were color coordinated symbols for editing suggestions such as spelling, grammar and word choice as well as a feature to detect for possible plagiarism. Although I tried a few other editing links, the â€Å"polish my paper† website gave me an error message and the â€Å"grammar base† website wanted to charge me when redirected to their main web address. Another concept I learned, or rather something that has been brought to my attention happened while looking at the â€Å"APA style central† feature. Here I discovered that I could view sample papers and reference lists. Looking at a sample reference list I realized how many different book sources there are now, each with slightly different referencing rules. When I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2010 and 2012, things like â€Å"ebooks† and â€Å"Kindle† were still fairly new. It will be helpful going forward to have sample reference lists like this to verify my APA guidelines. The issuing bank may issue the LC available by negotiation with a nominated bank or it may allow the LC to be freely negotiated with any bank. In the first case, the beneficiary, that is the seller, has to present the documents only to that bank, which is the nominated bank. Advance Against Hypothecation: Packing credit is given to process the goods for ex port. The advance is given against security and the security remains in the possession of the exporter. The exporter is required to execute the hypothecation deed in favour of the bank. . Advance Against Pledge: The bank provides packing credit against security. The security remains in the possession of the bank. On collection of export proceeds, the bank makes necessary entries in the packing credit account of the exporter. 4. Advance Against Red L/C: The Red L/C received from the importer authorizes the local bank to grant advances to exporter to meet working capital requirements relating to processing of goods for exports. The issuing bank stands as a guarantor for packing credit. 5. Advance Against Back-To-Back L/C: The merchant exporter who is in possession of the original L/C may request his bankers to issue Back-To-Back L/C against the security of original L/C in favour of the sub-supplier. The sub-supplier thus gets the Back-To-Bank L/C on the basis of which he can obtain packing credit. 6. Advance Against Exports Through Export Houses: Manufacturer, who exports through export houses or other agencies can obtain packing credit, provided such manufacturer submits an undertaking from the export houses that they have not or will not avail of packing credit against the same transaction. . Advance Against Duty Draw Back (DBK): DBK means refund of customs duties paid on the import of raw materials, components, parts and packing materials used in the export production. The exporter has two options to avail him of export finance. To avail him of pre-shipment credit in rupees ; then the post shipment credit either in rupees or in foreign currency denominated credit or discounting /rediscounting of export bills. * To avail of pre-shipment credit in foreign currency ; discounting/rediscounting of the export bills in foreign currency. * FCPC will also be available both to the supplier EOU/EPZ unit and the receiver EOU/EPZ unit. Pre-shipment credit in foreign currency sh all also be available on exports to ACU (Asian Clearing Union) countries with effect from 1. 1. 1996. Eligibility: PCFC is extended only on the basis of confirmed /firms export orders or confirmed L/C’s. The â€Å"Running account facility will not be available under the scheme. Some criticisms that could be made against defensive homicide could be that defensive homicide is being misused on the basis that it has been used almost exclusively by men who kill other men, and not for those for whom it was intended. Defensive homicide was introduced as a ‘safety net’ for women who kill their violent abusers once provocation was abolished. The law is meant to protect battered women being abused by brutal men. Defensive homicide applies when an accused believed – although unreasonably – that they needed to defend themselves or another person using force, and this resulted in the victim’s death. The offence may therefore be proved when a victim has behaved in a way, such as committing or threatening to commit an act of violence, which led the offender to unreasonably believe that lethal violence was necessary to defend themselves. However, in six of the 16 guilty plea convictions, it appears there was no prior violent exchange (physical or verbal) between the victim and offender. An American Jew In this large city of ours situated on big spinning ball, inside a vast galaxy, and even larger universe. We sometimes tend to leap out into the unkown embracing and fearing life on other planets, when we can not embrace life or learn not to fear life on our own planet. We as a society have formed our own barriers when those placed upon us have been removed. We rarely see mixed neighborhoods outside of large cities. Even in our own borough we can see this; for example Borough Park is mostly Religious Jews, the area surrounding Brooklyn College is mostly black, and Gerritsen Beach is mostly Italian. When someone who doesn't belong in a community invades that community, that community then will fear and reject the invaders. The community is like the indiginous people of an island, when the island recieves its first visiter from the outside, the indiginous people fear the visiter and fear the change they may bring. My family was the first Russian family to move to an all Italian neighborhood, I was told to go back to where i cam from "damn rooskies", the children used to yell and taunt my sisters and myself. They would scream go back to Russia eventhough we had never been there. But soon I made freinds with a local girl who accepted me for me, not for being Russian, but for being Diana. My parent's didn't want me to get involved with the wrong kids and they also feared my friendship with people of different backgrounds. But our families began to talk and then we went over to each others houses for dinner and pretty soon, we were having block parties and backyard BBQ's. We weren;t Russian anymore, and they weren't Italian we had met somewhere in the middle. My mom now makes an amazing lasagna and the Laura's mom (the girl I befriended) makes a great Chicken Kiev. We didn't belong to any one class, our neighborhood was no longer Italian and it didn't become Russian it just was. It was just a neighborhood, no classification, just a middle class neighborhood, it was gray. Gray is that color inbetween black and white, its not black, and its not white, its just in the middle. If you think about there are a lot of colors like that; take pink for example its a mix between red and white, its not red and its not ehite, its just in the middle its just pink.

When first viewing the painting, Surprise Attack Near Harper’s Ferry, created by John A. Mooney in 1868, the only thing I found myself able to focus on was the group of almost completely undressed men that appear to be bathing in a river. At first glance, I was not truly able to grasp the concept behind the painting or the exact situation that was intended to be portrayed by John Mooney, in this specific piece of historical artwork. After looking at the image more closely and thoughtfully, the first words that entered my mind immediately were fear and chaos. The background of the Surprise Attack Near Harper’s Ferry, with the exception of the smoke in the far distance, contrasts significantly to the utter chaos, fear, and confusion displayed in the portion of the painting where the group of men appear to be fearfully scattering about in the water. The background of this painting, the beautiful colored sky and other scenery including the shimmering water, differs greatly in comparison with the more focused on, somewhat disturbing image, of what appears to represent franticness and fear that is sweeping over this group of men. After observing the painting as closely and carefully as possible, the image to be portrayed caused a feeling of sadness, as well as confusion, to sweep over me. After understanding more about the painting’s meaning, I began to also feel a sense of compassion and sympathy toward these men that I couldn’t even completely comprehend at first. In the painting, Surprise Attack Near Harper’s Ferry, the artist, John A. Mooney, places a great emphasis on the â€Å"subject matter†; the subject matter being the men that were attempting to bathe in the river. Even though the subject matter, the â€Å"central focus† of the painting, seems to just be about this group of Confederate Soldiers, importance is also greatly placed upon the raw emotions shown by these soldiers; emotions that make this painting worth critiquing and analyzing in the first place. On a more positive note or view of the painting, Surprise Attack Near Harper’s Ferry easily has the ability to grab the observer’s attention because of the beautiful, shining color of the river and the broad sky; despite what realities the men might soon be forced to face in these waters. Additionally, one of the major things to notice about this painting is John Mooney’s use of repetition represented by the men in the river. Repetition is noted in the men in the painting, due to their striking, and almost identical similarities in their appearance. Another important principle of design or â€Å"formal property†, is the use of the earlier mentioned contrast between the more serious, central focal point or the â€Å"subject matter† ; also known as the Confederate men in the river, and the more calm and relaxed setting shown by the clear skies and mesmerizing color of the river itself. Contrast is also seen in the painting by the artist’s use of different colors that oppose or conflict with one another. For example, John Mooney uses a much brighter/ lighter color on these men, than what he uses for the intense green/blue river and the more cloudy/ darker color he uses for the sky, or for the background cannon smoke. Contrast is used by this artist to draw more attention to the focal point of the painting.
